The gear in the picture do go bad. Mine was stripped at the top of the travel.
The rivets were much faster than bolts to put in. That is why Ford used them. They are strong and harden and not like regular rivets you use around the house. You will need
to remove then and use bolts in the repair. Read these posts again and maybe recruit some help as I did. You can do it!
