Default Jacking points on 2001 Escape

My wife drives a 01 Escape V6 and I prefer to do any maintenance I can without going to a shop/dealer. I had been raising the vehicle on ramps to change the oil, but now I have a 3 ton floor jack and was wondering if there is an easier way or place to position the jack to raise the front end at one time if possible? Unfortunately the owner's manual is of no help. I have been jacking up one side at a time to position the jack stands. Someone suggested I position the jack under the suspension crossmember but when I tried that, it appeared to bend slightly when the vehicle was lifted, so I stopped. Any thoughts or insight would be greatly appreciated.
