The V6 is a spin on.
I can't say about the 2009 2.5L as that is a new engine and have not laid eyeballs on it.
The 2.3L used in the 2008 is a cartridge. Same one used on the 2.0L and on the Mazda 2.0 and 2.3L engines. A little messy to change, but cheap.
