the manual transmission/AWD was available up to 2006 with 4-cylinder only. They do exist and are a fun vehicle to drive. It may not have been an option on the earliest models though, for sure 2005-2006 though. Pre 2005 4-cylinder was 2.0l, which I have never driven but can imagine was GUTLESS...the 2.3l is adequate though, especially with manual.
