Default Should I rebuild the 352?

I picked up a very clean '65 Galaxie 4-door hardtop. From what I can tell so far it appears to be original. I want to give the engine and trans a make over. One option is to rebuild the 352 and cruise-o-matic to original specs. However I would prefer to put some more power under the hood and connect it to a manual trans. Can the 352 be boored and/or stroked to get some extra power? I have read information regarding a 352, that when boored, it can create issues surrounding the thin cylinder walls. Do you know how a 427/428 would fit in this car's engine bay? Another size engine? If so, is it something worth spending the money on? What tranny would fit up nicely to that? I would imagine the cost of building a bigger engine and finding a manual tranny would be significantly more than rebuilding what I already have. Any info or other suggestions would be greatly appriciated.
