i got to play with an 09 escape and it does not have the alarm unfortunately.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the Ford system does not arm itself for a couple of minutes after you lock the doors (interior button, key of key fob).
Regardless, there are many pages in the 2009 Escape owners manual that talks about the anti-theft system.
