No need to change plugs till 100k. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I don't like breakdowns alongside the road so at 100k on any vehicle with a timing belt like the Escort i do the following. Replace all belts including the timing belt, plugs, filters, drain and flush brake system then filling with new fluid, examine hoses and replace any that are bulged or cracking. Check spark plug wires for breakdown and if faulty replace them. That is about it. By doing this I have never worn out an engine and end up selling my vehicles cause I get tired of them. My current 98 Escort has 146k and runs like a top. Oh, after breakin I use Mobil one synthetic motor oil which helps gaurd against oil breakdown and sludge build up among other things. Change oil with mobil one at the longer service interval for light duty useage.
