 1999 f-350 Diesel Misses, Skips, Shuts Off, Quits when it starts to rain, moisture
Every time I am driving and I see rain ahead, I know that it is only a matter of time before my 1999 F-350 Diesel starts to miss, skip, and sometimes even shut down. I feel like it must be a bare wire somewhere that is causing these problems. The engine runs perfectly in all other "dry" situations.
On my drive home today, I drove through 3 different rain showers. It missed once on the first and third shower and 3x on the second shower. It ran perfectly through the remainder of the trip when it was not raining.
Is there any place on the top side of the engine, wiring harnesses, etc. that I should look first? Last week, it rained slightly at my house overnight. By the time I left for work, the roads were dry, but it missed violently within one block of my house. That makes me think that with me leaving the truck in my driveway overnight and the streets being dry when I started driving that morning that the problem must be on the topside. I know that there was no moisture coming from below to cause problems, but there could have been some puddling / ponding on the upper wiring or engine through the night to cause my problems.
This is probably one of the weirdest problems posted. However, with the drought we have been having, it didn’t take a genius to figure out that the truck had been running like a champ until those few rain drops fell, then the skips, misses, and shut offs re-appeared as well. Thanks.
