Default '96 Explorer XLT Check Engine Light

The Check engine light came on today on my '96 Explorer XLT.

Specs: 4.0L, 4WD auto, 119,000 miles, A/C.

Guages show normal oil pressure, temp, and amps.

No noises and engine runs fine. No loss of power.

What should I check to get this light to go back off? It stays on while the engine is running. Can't afford to put it in the shop right now.
