I am not familiar with the Explorer, but it probably has independent front suspension with the upper and lower control arms fitted with rubber bushings. Typically with Ford these bushings do not move and rely on the give in the rubber to allow suspension movement. When these bushings wear out they make a squeaking noise. I would get the bushings checked for excessive cracking and any damage.
For the steering squeaks raise the front of the vehicle and move the steering through lock to lock and check the steering column universal joint for noise. Also the ball joints upper and lower, sometimes replacements need to be greased.
Hope this helps.
