4.6 difference 96 Lincoln and 95 Thunderbird? I have a 1996 Lincoln Town Car with the Overhead Cam V8 4.6L engine. This car has the Vin Code W for the 8th digit and has a plastic intake manifold with throttle body opening facing towards the driver side of the car.
I have found a 1995 Thunderbird in the junkyard with 65,000 actual miles on it, (found
a telephone number inside of the car and called the owner who said the engine was
fine and the transmission was bad) and I want to know what I have to do to make that motor work in my Lincoln Town Car?
The thunderbird is also a Vin Code: W but has alumimum intake and the throttle body faces straight to the front. The power steering resevoir is on the fender of the Lincoln
and mounted to the front of the motor on the Thunderbird. Other then the intake difference I can't see much.
Now, the junkyard (another one) says that the interchange for the motor is a 97 Thunderbird or Cougar and a 96-97 Lincoln Town Car, Mercury Grand Marquis, or Crown Victoria.
I have many years of experience working on the car and won't have a problem
changing a sensor here and there or an intake manifold swap. I do however have a problem with finding out that the bellhousings are different and or the starter on the
other side etc..etc..
If you would prefer to talk about this over the phone please e-mail me your number and I will give you a call. Thanks (gandl2123@comcast.net)
