It probably does need freon, but what else could it need? That is the question you should ask. Personally I believe it is never a good idea to just put freon in a car. In a way its like adding oil to an engine that either burns or leaks out the oil anway. I'd assume the AC system is shot, that you will need to replace the compresser, accumulator, and orfice tube. If you want to make a better guess take a look at the truck, see if you can use a leak finder and a UV light to find the leak. Or have a reputable mechanic take a look at the truck.
