thanks Charlie Sadly, I think you are right.
I've looked at several ways to get in there: universal adapters with extensions, lifting the body up... removing the inner wheel well cover seems to be the simplest and the way I can actually see what I'm doing. As I have to re-thread one of the plug sockets, I have to be able to see what I'm doing.
One more thing though; I called a local ford dealership, spoke with a service rep and a couple of parts guys - who seemed pretty helpful. They all said the shop foreman knew what kind of helicoil kit to use for the rethreading - the shop foreman has not returned my calls, and the service rep now says the foreman told him it is a Ford-only kit, and there was no way to sell it to me.
All that 'someone telling another' stuff begins to look fishy in my book. So here's my question: do you (or anyone) know whether or not it is a special kit for triton repair, or what brand of sleeve or coil kit will work well? I really don't want to pull the heads to re-machine the holes, etc... and rack up a few thousand in repair bills. Suggestions welcome.
Thanks again, LunarVan |
