Unhappy Help!

I just purchased a 89 thunderbird, a little rough but runs great! I need some help, I need to know how to fix the dash lights. My friend tried to rig them up which now i cant dim them and the only way to cut them on is to cut on the interior lights, which brings me to another issue, i cant get the rearview mirror lights to come on, i guess those are called map lights or whatever i even checked all the fuses and they are good. So if anyone has any suggestions please help. I am a single mother and this is my only transportation right now and i like to try to fix things if i could instead of taking it somewhere. so please any one with any ideas.

Thanks
