Default 2000 Explorer XLT

Help! I have a 2000 Explorer. I took it to a Mechanic as the car seemed to surge inbetween gears. Mechanic said was transmission, put it on the computer and code was for a faulty 2nd gear ratio and I would need to take to transmission shop. Tranny mechanic also put on computer a week and 1,200 dollars later car is shifting rough but no surge. Took car back in. 4 days later, car back and it drives better but shifts very fast from ist to second and from second to third under light normal drive conditions and now OD light comes on. Only ways to turn OD off is to turn car off. I can drive several days up to a week or more before OD light will come back on but the fast shifting is all the time. Any clues as to what needs to be done next???
Thanks.
