Thanks for the response! Sorry I wasnt clear about the sluggish issue! Heres what I have experienced: I was traveling 35mph and a car pulled out in front of me, I applied brakes (not a complete stop or screeching halt but a good brake) I then applied gas and it took its time in response. Almost like a sputter or cutting out. Also driving on freeway I am experiencing this in heavy traffic so I am not driving fast or doing quick maneuvers. I never experienced this in my 98 Ranger and I think it had the same or similar engine. I knew I was getting a cheaper SUV but I think I expected similar driving between the Ranger & Escape.
