Question Ford Fusion 2007 Transmission issue

Hello,
My fiance owns a 2007 Ford Fusion and today she started it up and drove down the street for work, but it would not go over 20 mph and the engine RPM was really high. She stopped and tried it again, still the same problem. She called the dealership and they came and towed it and got her a rental mini-van.

Now the dealership called her and says she must have been driving it in 'low' gear and she has to pay for the rental car...she was not driving it in low gear!

Has anyone else experienced this so we can tell the dealership what to look for? This isn't the first issue we've had with the car, but this is the first time they are saying they couldn't find anything with it.

Thanks!
