Default electrical problems

Hi I own a 2001 ford superduty 4x4. v-10
I'm wondering if anyone is having a similar electrical problem as I am. I had trailer light problem and my back yard mechanic hard wired my trailer lights into the rear taillight harness. The trailer worked for that day and on the way home the trailer lights were off, the interior dash lights to illum. the odo. and tach and gauges were out. I took it to my mechanic and he said the fuse was fine for this assembly but power was only going to part of the dash system. I had a high beam light indicator and I had radio 4x4 high and low lights. He showed me that the fuses were okay and did fuse checks with a little piece of wire from one fuse to another to prove there was power through the fuses except no. 16 fuse. Why would part of the dash system work and why would the whole trailer lght assembly and my taillights not light up after a simple hard wire job for my trailer light assembly?
