Default fuel pump woes

Hi and good morning all,

I've had my I6 300 back from the machine shop for a week or so and I've been working at cleaning and painting whatever pieces I'm going to reuse.

I've been sort of test fitting/mocking up everything as I go.

I go to put the fuel pump on(it's run off the cam by a lever) and it won't go on. It seems to me like the cam lobe is too big, ?? is this even possible? I'm not the type to force things if the don't go easy .

I can put the fuel pump in place and even get the bolts in but I have a good 1/4" gap between the pump body and the engine block.

Is this normal? or is there a chance this machine shop put in the wrong cam?

can anyone add any insight before I call this guy?
Please.

Going out the the garage to take another look.....
Thanks
Dave
