The 5.4 engines are known to have strong bottom ends and weak top ends.
It would help if you could describe it - clicking? thump? knock?
Does the noise follow the engine speed? Does it do it in neutral? In gear? at an idle? at higher speeds? What kind of transmission do you have?
You have to give a bit more info for us to help.
