Default Tranny Shift Problems

I have a 79 thunderbird with the 429 motor and tranny out of a 69 mercury, the transmission won't shift untill the engine is at 3700rpm, I tried to look at the kickdown linkage to see if it was stuck, but all is well.

I want it to shift at 2500 like normal trannies, does it have some sort of shift kit or stall converter in it and what do I have to get to get it back to normal.

its a 3 speed trans and I want to not drive the @$$ off it to get it to change gears.
