Get a Duraspark distributor and ignition module. On the module will be two harnesses.
One harness with have a red and white wire. The red wire gets ~10 volts positive after a ballast resistor when the key is in the run posistion. The white wire gets 12 volts positive when the key is in the crank posistion.
On the other harness will be four wires, I belive they are black, green, purple, and orange, but I know for sure that there is a green. The green runs to the ground of your coil. The other three run to the pick-up coil inside the distributor, i believe the black is the ground and the other two read the voltage from the pick up coil.
On your coil put a ballast resistor before the positive side. The negative side of the coil gets the green wire from the ignition module.
I have a spare harness in the shop, I'd part with it for $10. It's not super pretty, but it is solid, and would work good in this application, and with a little work it would clean up nice. Painless also sells a harness for $100.
Oh, a dual point distributor may be ideal for what you're wanting to do also.
