Default Check Engine light

My "Check Engine" light keeps coming on. My mechanic has replaced the
starter, alternator, battery, pcv, egr, serpentine belt, gas filter, air filter,
spark plugs and radiator hoses.

After all that, I was driving down the road and my stereo stopped working,
the dash gauges all quit working and the car stalled out. Also, the battery
light was staying on. After letting it set for a few minutes, it started right up
and all the guages and stereo worked, for about 3 miles, then it did it again.
Let it set a few minutes and it started up again and made it about 4 miles.
My mechanic towed me in. Next day he said the alternator he put in was
defective and put another one in. In a few days the "Check engine" light
has again come on.

I also noticed that when I'm driving at a constant speed between 30 and 40mph,
I feel sort of a jerking, sort of like it would feel if the engine was missing or
cutting out. When it's idling, it is very smooth.

Anyone have a guess as to what's going on? I have a 2002 Windstar.

Thanks
