Question Enging general questions

I have a 76 F-250 that belonged to a good friend that pass on years ago.
went through the family and then was parked several years ago.
I want it to run again.
Has a blown 300-6, Have another 300-6 ?

Where to look on the block to find out engine years and ci's

The oil dip stick on the enging I just got is in the oil pan,
the one in the pickup comes out of the block by the oil filter.
can anyone tell me when and why the difference.

the engine is supposed to be a good runnerout of a 78-9 van
I like the dipstick coming out of the pan, but the pan has a bad gash
and will need replaced, where is the best place to find one.
Wrecking yards are 100 miles away.

Will have several questions as this goes on I'm sure
