They kind of confirmed that because we have the dash switch for shifting from AWD to locking in 4WD which they said was removed in the 2002 model year.
im pretty sure that they are wrong, i have a friend that bought a escape brand new in 2003 and it had the 4wd switch and i have an 2002 and it has the switch as well, from what ive seen i think that the switch came equipped in all 3.0L V6 w/4wd from 2001 to 2004.
