Default Machine gun like noise when accelerating
Hello:

I have a 1996 Ford Explorer and when I am accelerating I sometimes hear a faint machingun like noise. It's not very loud, but if I turn down my radio I can hear it more clearly. Does anyone have an idea of what this may be? I just had my trans rebuilt, so I think I can rule that out - it was happening prior to my Tranny issue. It seems as though it's coming from the engine, but I'm not 100% sure. I have a 1996 Ford Explorer 2wh drive 6 cy engine with 175,000 miles. I would love to clear this noise up so I can get a smooth sounding ride.
