Default A/C Compressor kicks on & off

I have a 2002 V6 Explorer about 60,000 miles. A/C has been blowing warm air and the compressor kicks on and off every few seconds. I bought one of the Artic Freeze charger kits from Autozone with the gauge. So I followed the instructions and as the car is running the gauge shows 0-25 (needs refill) then the compressor kicks in and it jumps to 40-45pds(no refill) and then off again back to 0-25.....any ideas? New clutch or compressor/relay? Thanks!!!!
