Default Engine Surge 2002 Exp. Help!

I have a 2002 Expedition. The problem I am having is as I am approaching a stop ( the last 100ft. or so), the engine RPM's raise about 300-500 and the engine actually surges causing me to have to press the brake pedal harder to stop. It seems to happen during all tempetures. I have the 5.4L. It happens intermittently. Any info would be great. Thanks
