Default Need more HP for Dirt Car!

I have an '89 Escort with a 1.9L CFI that I race in an all-stock class on a 3/8 mile dirt track. Any tricks for boosting performance? This is basically an IMCA Sport Compact class, no modifications allowed to suspension, no turbos, etc. The car hangs with the pack, but definitely not a front-runner - any ideas would be appreciated!
