Default 1996 Explorer: Installing a CD Changer

I have been trying to install an aftermarket changer into my Explorer, but have been having problems doing so. It is one that has a controler that runs off of a radio station. I can't find a wire in the radio to connect it to, so that the changer will turn on and off when the car is turned on or off. The radio wiring diagram lists the green and purple wire as the correct one to connect the changer to, but it has failed to work for me. Does anyone know anything about doing this? Which wire will help me with what I need done?
