You really need to go back and search or register on crownvic.net, this procedure has been detailed many times on that site. For the most recent, from a guy in Mirabel Quebec, search on "The 5 speed swap done". For serious performance and technical questions on Crown Vics and Grand Marquis they have the most. I've been looking at various sites for five years, and haven't found anything better. It's always good to research projects such as this, and that is why you should look at all internet forums such as this one to get what ever you can from them.
Unfortunately, going to a manual will really cost a lot in time and money, depending on what resources you have available; around $2,500 would not be unreasonable for the above example. That's including the computer tune you would have to get to make it perform to it's maximum.
Good Luck!
