98 Ford Taurus 3.0 DOHC, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT Hello.
I'm new to this forum, but, obviously, I'm NOT the only one with problems with a Taurus.
My problems started about four months ago, with the Check Engine Light coming on. I had the codes chacked, and got PO174, and (I think) PO 175. In any case, if pointed to BOTH O2 sensors being bad. Also, BOTH banks were running Lean.
I checked and REPLACED all vacuum hoses, and sprayed injector cleaner on ALL vacuum connections to check for leaks. Didn't find any.
I have CLEANED the MAF, problem went away for about 2 days.
I replaced the EGR Valve. SOME improvement, DIDN'T LAST!
Then, I replaced the IAC Valve. It was gunked up, and the voltage test suggested by FORD said it needed replacing. No CHANGE.
I replaced the FUEL FILTER. NO DIFFERENCE!
TODAY, I drove about 50 miles up the Interstate at speed, to an appointment. After it was over, I drove BACK.
I noticed that if I accelerated while at speed, (70 MPH), the engine would 'bogg', as if it were out of gas. (nearly FULL tank).
If I released the accelerator, then SLOWLY eased it back down, the engine would slowly pick up the power and return to speed.
If I pressed hard on the pedal, NOTHING. It seemed to 'back up'.
The car has 151100 miles on it, and it has been in my family since new. I am at my wits end with this car, and I think the next step is the 'Gallon of Gas, and a Match' remedy.
Any help will be REALLY appreciated. |
