Default '92 explorer a/c and valve cover gaskets help

Hello all,
First time here and need some help - Been a mechanic for a long time but have been out of the business for almost 20 years as a locksmith in a Prison here in Colorado.
Anyway I am about to replace the a/c compressor, receiver/dryer and orifice tube etc. due to a compressor locking up. I purchased a new compressor and parts mentioned and the new hot spit oil recommended by that company. As I have a supply of r-12 I won't be converting to the r-134 stuff. Will this oil be compatible with r-12.
2nd question:
While all this is apart I am also going to replace the valve cover gaskets that are leaking. The felpro gasket set I got has a intake gasket included. My repair manual mentions nothing about having to remove the intake. What’s up??
Any suggestions on what else I should replace while it’s in pieces?
Any replies will be appreciated!
