if you want a 4 cylinder car that is fast, you should have bought a WRX, Lancer Evolution, or even an SRT Neon
. Some escorts are nice to look at and fun to tinker around with but, for the time and money involved to make them fast, it is tough to justify. It has been mentioned before on this post that if you want to go fast you should get a Mustang. This is good advice. The Mustang comes with a v8. Most of the v8's have 100 hp or more than the escorts have. They are rear wheel drive. The aftermarket offers a lot more support. You can stay legal by keeping the cat installed. The transmission wont give out on you if you add more power
. The list can go on and on. I have 3 zx2's right now (2 s/r's) and when I really want to go fast, as compared to just sounding like I am going fast, I take my mustang out of the garage for a drive

ps. when you watch car movies (ie. fast and furious, gone in 60 seconds, etc) do they play around with escorts or with real v8 cars
