Default new member in the UK in need of some help

Hi , I am a new member living in the UK and own a 1998 Crown Vic ( P74 ) and I have just started to have a problems with what I think is fuel related . The car has only got 50,000 miles on it and when I was coming home last night from a weekend car show along one of our motorways the car just started to slow down ( I had the cruise set at 70 mph ) . It would drop down to 55-60 and when I gave it some more thottle it would kick down and speed up to 70 again then start to slow down . Once I got home the car ticked over properly but if I pushed the throttle down the engine would die slightly ( only for a moment )and then would pick up again . I fired it up this morning and went to pull off and the engine seemed to miss a few beats and then come alive and drive ok until I stopped again and turned off the engine , once again if I started the engine would again miss a few beats and run fine . I have noticed that when I am pulling away from junctions or lights the car is slow to pull away . Has anyone any ideas if it could it be the lambda sensors or could it be a faulty spark plug lead or something else ?
