The electronic load unit is on the left "kick" panel below the dash on the driver's side. I also have a 1989 Probe LX. I have replaced this unit once. I had to go to the "Automotive Recycling Center" (read Junk Yard) and go through the cars to find the EXACT one. According to my Ford Service Center, you have to replace "like for like". They were not sure what would happen if I were to install a unit for a Probe without A/C or the other options the LX has. Needless to say, I bought this car from an individual and the 2nd load control unit has gone out also. I can't find an aftermarket replacement or a wiring diagram for it. Good luck.
