The fox platform in Mustangs used two different transmission tunnels. I have no reason to believe that the Fairmont fox platform would be different. One for automatics, one for standards. The standard trans tunnel is much narrower and requires modification (hammer, cutting, or replacing) if you want an automatic. If the car is already an auto, you should be able to install c-4, c-6 or just about any auto trans you like.
