Angry Escape 08 Brakes?? Already!!??

08' Escape FWD ABS with 10,500.

For the past month or so, I've been hearing a grinding noise when I apply the brake towards the end of the braking process or just as it's about to stop. It's only coming from the left rear brake from what I can tell. Anyways, it seems to be worse the more I drive or on hot days.

I take it in and they say they need to replace the rear brake pads and it won't be covered under a warranty because I have had the car since April 07 although I only have 10k on it. $200.00

What's up with this? I'm a very responsible driver who can honestly say I baby my car. I coast up to lights or stop signs and there are no excessive driving conditons to speak of. It's a simple to and from car.

I've had 5 Ford Leases all have been at least 2-3 years in length and have NEVER replaced my brakes. What gives here?
