Default 1990 Ford Aerostar

Ok Ive searched maybe my search parameters were not good enough but heres the deal. My factory equalizer shorted out dont ask lol but anyways the factory radio will not work now. Will the radio not work w/o it or did it short out something in the radio too. I dont know if there is a factory amp in this thing or not but if someone could tell me how to find out I will look. Im so confused as to why if the equalizer doesnt work that the radio doesnt. To clarify the radio does turn on and will "function" as in it will tune to stations via manual search or seek button but will not broadcast through the speakers. Any help will be good. Do I need to just get a replacement factory equalizer, do I need to replace the head unit period if it has an amp is that the prob. If I need to define anything further to help in this process just ask and I will answer. Thank you
