Ahh ! If you can hear it humming while you are, that is a sure sign it is going bad.
As I said, it is in the tank. You can do it yourself if you are good around cars and have a friend to help drop the tank. Hopefully the strap and bolts aren't in too bad of shape.
While your there, replace the fuel filter. It might require a special tool, but most auto parts store have a free/low cost rental program for these things.
