I just learned that the automatic transmission on my 2002 Ford Escape needs to be replaced after only 47,000 miles and regular servicing! Over the past 2 weeks I'd noticed some hesitation shifting into third gear. But yesterday it failed to shift into first at a red light and I had to get it towed to the dealer. Other than 2 recalls, I had experienced no major problems and was pleased overall with the vehicle. Unfortunately, I don't have the extended warranty so will be out at least $3000 for a reconditioned transmission. This is my first SUV, and my first and last Ford. I'll be looking to trade it in as soon as I feel I've recouped the $3000 investment, probably looking at a Honda CRV. |
