I am guessing that it is related the GEM generic electronic module.
The door ajar chime and key in ignition switch chime etc is in the GEM on other vehicles.

The GEM is a black box located to the left or right of the steering column about 4x4x1 inches in size with apporx 60-80 wires coming out of it. IT controls many thing things that are timed such as interior lights, headlight delay, power windows, and intermittant wipers. Of course there are variances from one vehicle to another.
