I had same problem and eventually I ended up having to pull radio out to physically remove cds. Ford wants too much to replace unit so I ended up buying external satellite receiver and I do not listen to cd's any longer. Tip, I have found the 6 cd radio many times on ebay but I am a tight wad and have not won yet. I never bid more that $125 though. I am getting ready to trade in as I have 205,000 miles and my focus is getting a little tired.
