'88 2.3, new fuel pumps, new coil no start Picked up an '88 2.3 Ford Ranger reg cab. Replaced both fuel pumps, fuel filter and coil. Set timing started and ran incredibly well. But after a 25 mile maiden voyage, it spuddered like it was getting too much fuel, throttled it to clear it out. Ran a little further down the road and while decelerating down a hill did the same thing then acted like it was getting no fuel, throttled through it again. Finally, down another descent (not a huge hill or anything) I again let off the gas with it still in gear and it acted like it was'nt getting any fuel. I've checked for fuel delivery and the pumps are doing the job. It's almost like the injectors aren't injecting. No backfire or even subtle indicators it want's to start. Got fuel and spark, light brown tan spark plug, none wet with fuel upon cranking. Timing marks are right on. Both pumps are new as is the filter.....aaargh!! What is the proper pressure for the injection system supply? Could it be the throttle positioning sensor? Any help might keep me from going insane!!! Thanks, W. |
