Default Speedo Swap? can it be done?

Does any one know if you can swap instrument panels from one without a tachometer to one with? (without changing anything else?) I found one for my 98 Contour GL that is less that 3k from my actual mileage. I just don't know if the connectors on the back are the same or not. My car was made in Feb 1998, so it is anybody's guess as to which connectors I have. I have read that there was a mid year change on some parts in the contour/mystiques.
