Unhappy Ford Focus

I have a Ford Focus 2002, while I am driving I am fine, it is when I am in a stand still position, or just letting it sit. It will over heat the temperature gauge will slowly go into the red. My husband looked in the manual and it did not help him what so ever. So could you tell me where the engine coolant sensor is? That is what someone at a dealership that he called and told him.

Desperate need of soem attention.
