Unhappy Mustang 2002 screeching then dead

My 2002 Mustang died in the intersection last week. Started as a screeching noise ( metal to metal ?) while braking/slowing down, got louder then just horrible loud. That point, I broke down. The engine light was on,( service engine soon) radio, lights working, just won`t start. I had to get it towed to the repair shop. I was told it was the camshaft sensor, so I got a new one with a bill of $300. I had no problem for a week..until today..here comes again... The noise started, not too bad yet, I drove it back to the repair shop. They are closed for the weekend.
I have only 44000 miles in the car.
What do you think it can be ? Obviously not the camshaft sensor ...

Just a guess? Maybe you need brakes?

It wasn`t doing the noise for a few days after they changed the camshaft sensor.
All the noise started that day when it died. There was no sign before that something going to happen. It advanced pretty fast, I could drive maybe a mile before broke down.
Can the car die because of the brakes?
I don`t know anything about cars ( I`m a woman .. ) , that`s why I`m so clueless....
