Exclamation Paint Splatter

Hello Ford Owners,

I recently bought a 2005 Ford Escape Limited and noticed, after getting it home, that it had yellow paint splatter by the wheel wells. We tried rubbing compound and clay bars but it still won't come off. You can feel it on the surface, but it just won't come off. Anybody have any ideas on how to get it off without taking off the paint?

you can try some Finger nail Polish Remover , try a small spot in a place you won't see or be very hard to fix like the lip of the wheel well opening. Put some on a soft cotton cloth ans rub like you would your finger nails. This works on plastic lens for my eye glasses and does not damage them. After you try this on the paint wash with soap and water.

Thanks for the advice. Only problem is that the paint splatter is everywhere, by every single wheel well. See pics...

I think nail polish remover is the same thing as acetone, but weaker. Try a spot with nail polish remover first to see if it works then go from there. You can call or stop by a body shop and see if they can tell you a simple way to get it off.

If you can not remove the splatter using the claybar. I would say to wet sand it using 2000-2500 grit. After that run a three stage wax with a buffing wheel. This may seem a bit intimidating at first but remember the splatter is not on your paint its on your clear coat.

sanding would be a bad idea, remember the factory paint is new, and it's job is to protect the metal from rust. Do not sand down the protective layer. I'd recommend seeing a body shop or better yet a professional detailer, and next time wax the car so paint will come off.

I don't know how this may help, but I usually take a razor blade to tar that gets stuck on the paint, just don't scrape, just try to grab onto the tar (in my case) and pull the tar off of the paint.

WD-40 will probably work. Spray the WD-40 on the paint splatter and scrub at it with a cotton cloth. Whatever paint splatter you are not able to scrub off with the cloth should be loosened enough by the WD-40 that you will be able to just scrape it off with your fingernails or a plastic scraper.
