Exclamation '95 Ford Probes. Many Problems, All Help Is Appreciated.

Me and my gf both have probes she has a 95 GT and mine is a 95 SE.. both have been oxidized and hers is mostly stripped of all clear coat on top side but paint is alright, mine on the other hand was red and now fading has made it a goofy pink color only on the roof. but anyway i need to know how to restore the glossy smooth shiny clear coat look to it. right now its basically just flat black. I have been told cleaner wax would work, and that wax compound something or other would work also.

anyone have any ideas?

also when i cold start it (i mean start it after not starting it for a long while... not mid winter cold start.) it squeals for a bit til i drive it for a bit. ive been told this could be a loose alternator cable. and i think that might be right because i have a low charge on the battery.

can anyone confrirm that?

third question.
her right rear wheel makes like a loud screech noise that was almost unbearable when we first drove it... (after the car sitting around for almost 7 months) it quieted down since then but it still persists. i was told maybe rotor cleaner would work..

would it? and could i buy something like that at walmart or autozone?

last Q.
the engine ticks randomly, at one point it wont tick for a long time and sometimes it ticks constantly. when i rev it gets faster. i was told that is probably my valve lifters, maybe? either way its the things that intake and exhaust from the cylinder.

is that true?

Thanks all for help

I would move your tech questions to the Probe section to get more views and possibly get an answer faster.

As far as trying to bring the Rio Red back, I have heard people use a Clay Bar to help bring back the color. With it being a 14 year old car and assuming the original paint, your best bet would to have it repainted. My 94PGT was Rio Red with the faded pink roof as you stated. I tried many waxing compounds and it never got better.

Moving on to the tech stuff, the squealing, have you replaced belts? They could be loose and need tightened, but probably need replaced. Also when replacing them check out the idler pulleys (alternator and power steering), my ps idler pulley is frozen and my alternator idler pulley wobbles, both making my belts squeal.
Since she has the GT she has rotors in the rear, I would sugguest checking all the brakes and calipers to see if anything is frozen/locked up.
Which engine ticks? the GT has the 2.5L which is non-interference and the SE has the 2.0L which is an interference motor. Sometimes the timing tensioner ticks on the 2.5L. But not knowing which motor, I would say add some additives to your oil, and use a synthetic oil. Possibly run some Sea Foam through the PCV Valve to clean up carbon build up (instructions are on the bottle).

If your idler/tensioner pulleys are really shiney then you need to take the belt off and with a 1000 grit or so sand them to get the glaze off them and it will probably stop, Do not use belt dressing if you already have you need to spray down all the pullies with brake cleaner(watch the alt.) to remove it and it will probably make it stop squeking. I know some of the paint on 1st gens were no clear coat finish so check your paint code to be sure if that is what you have.

If you have intermittant running problems or a flat spot/buck/dying/cutting out while accelerating.
Do your self a favor and try some dedicated gas
line dryer, Double or even triple dose it, It's cheaper
then throwing parts at a problem that doesn't throw
codes!!
