Default Expedition fuel economy improvements?

Does anyone know what is in the pipeline for Expedition? I have an '03 but just can't tolerate the fuel economy much longer. I also own a Highlander Hybrid, but it can't do my towing. The new Tahoe Hybrid is available and a nice ride - but the Expedition destroys the Tahoe in the third row seat implementation, an important feature for our family.

Where's the hybrid version that was in the news as the next big change for the Expedition back in '06? It wasn't expected until '09 or '10, but all talk of it (and the possible diesel) seems to have disappeared.

You say the hybrid highlander doesn't work for your towing, so doesn't it seem that a hybrid expedition wouldn't be any better?

There's a place I know about, where the dirt road runs out, and we can try out the 4 wheel drive..come on now, what do you say?
I've got the perfect place in mind, it's in the middle of nowhere, only one way to get there, you got to get a little mud on the tires.

Actually, if Ford can get anywhere near the capability of the Tahoe, then a hybrid Expedition will be dramatically more capable than a Highlander - just as it is in the IC engine format and just as the Tahoe - which has a towing capacity near the range of their gasoline engine variants.

I gave up and, alas, my Expedition is gone! My new Tahoe Hybrid tows 6,000 lbs and I'm getting 19.8 MPG in mixed driving. It doesn't have the same level of comfort for rear seat passengers, especially third row, but they've done some things right.

Let me know if anyone hears about Expedition improvements - I'd like to get the whole package, Expedition, towing, comfort, responsible mileage.
